An Internet “WOW” Moment

October 18, 2011 By Ben

From time to time the internet blows my mind. Usually it’s second hand stories or maybe I get an email from a blogger I admire, but this is my biggest “WOW” moment so far.

Today, I received a postcard from Pyongyang, North Korea. As someone who is fascinated with the country, it blows my mind that I was able to receive a postcard from a blogger for $3.

I believe the connection started with a post on Jean-Luc Nguyen’s blog that received a few upvotes on Hacker News (I think it was about 4D movie theaters). Following along on his blog, I instantly jumped on the opportunity to received a postcard from North Korea for only $3.

Two months later, I received in the mail what you see below.

This is the power of the internet – the greatest connection machine. Someone in Minnesota can pay a random blogger they’ve never met to mail a postcard from isolated North Korea.

Wow.
