3 Lessons from Jerry Weintraub

October 23, 2011 By Ben

How does a random person become a concert promoter for Elvis? What do you do when you’re about to break your biggest promise on your first day and your career hangs in the balance?

Not a question you’re likely to ask yourself, but Jerry Weintraub’s story is fascinating.

A few lessons from Jerry Weintraub and the video below:

1. Persistence is everything.
It took a year of hearing No before he got the job.

2. There is always another choice.
If it looks like you only have two options, look for a third. His creative problem solving using the inmates was remarkable.

3. Find your own opportunity
Jerry didn’t wait for the position of “Elvis Tour Manager” to show up in the classifieds. He went out and got it. The best opportunities in life aren’t obvious, easy, or ones that you apply for. You have to know what you want and go out and make it happen.
