Double Your Productivity

December 15, 2011 By Ben

I forgot my laptop charger at work.

This obviously limits the amount of time I can work on side projects at home, but does that also mean I’ll get less done?

Nope.

It turns out that having a hard time constraint with things you “have to” get done, makes you focus and work harder.

Tonight I got done what I usually do, but in half the time.

Amazing what focus on time constraints can do.

This is also why so many people find it difficult to use their time on earth effectively. It’s very rare that we know when it’s going to end.

The tragic part is that often once we realize the fragility of time, it’s much too late to do what we really wanted with our life.

The sooner you can come around to truly realizing that you might not be on this planet forever, your productivity, focus, and sense of urgency will dramatically increase.

“I remind myself nearly every day of something that a doctor told me six months before my friend Pammy died. This was a doctor who always gave me straight answers. When I called on this one particular night, I was hoping she could put a positive slant on some distressing developments. She couldn’t, but she said something that changed my life. “Watch her carefully right now,” she said, “because she’s teaching you how to live.” – Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird
