“Being Nice” is Mean

January 26, 2012 By Ben

When you don’t give someone honest feedback, it’s usually generated by a selfish desire to avoid conflict and not hurt another’s feelings.

But it isn’t nice.

It’s much closer to being mean.

What that person needs is a kick to get better.

If people keep telling them that they’re doing good work, but they aren’t – it’s damaging.

We all need honest feedback. Sometimes the feedback is wrong. Often there is a grain of truth.

But “being nice” doesn’t help anyone but yourself.
