“People don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it.” – Simon Sinek
I’m only half-way through Simon Sinek’s book, but it has already changed the way I see things.
Every business I work with talks about what they do. It’s all they focus on.
What do we do that is different?
So they look at doing things differently. Maybe run a different contest. Have coupons. Or introduce a new product.
All nice things, but short-term decisions.
It’s like plotting out the next turn you’re going to make in the car without knowing why you got in it to begin with.
Every great company begins with Why?
Why did you start your business?
Why do you work at your company?
Why do you make the products you make?
Once you have a why then comes the how? and then what?
Almost every business I’ve come in contact with begins with what?
What is secondary. We want to know why you do what you do.
When your why matches what you do, you have passion.
Nothing sells like passion.
That’s what we really want to buy from you.
