Social Media Expert (or insert any other adjective there)” is a weird title to have.
It’s like working in construction and calling yourself a “Hammer Expert.”
Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, WordPress, YouTube, Instagram, yada yada yada… They’re just tools. Great tools, but just having a pretty toolbox with the nicest tools doesn’t matter.
It’s what you do with the tools.
When building a house, you don’t obsess over the hammer, your main focus is building a house. A good hammer, won’t save a poor craftsmen or fix a poor foundation. Having a Facebook page or Tweeting won’t save a company with several flaws. Not even if you have a social media ninja/guru/diva/rock star doing the social work for you.
Two Step Process to Becoming Successful in Social Media:
1. Have a product or service people love. Make it remarkable. Make talking about your product/service easy.
2. Care. Out caring has much higher ROI than out spending. Care about who your customers are, their support requests, and making them say WOW.
Social media is just a flashy set of tools. Before you start using them, make sure you have a solid blueprint for the house you’re building.
