I’m obsessed with North Korea. It seems I have an obsession with most Asian countries. Obsessed with Japan for the sushi and work ethic. Obsessed with Thailand for the beauty and food. Obsessed with China for the food. And not long ago I paid someone I’ve never met to send me a postcard from North Korea.
Below is a mini documentary on North Korea from VICE that’s more interesting than any half hour show on TV right now.
Jason Hull says
The entire Vice series is fascinating. Along those lines, you should watch the series where he tries to track down a North Korean work camp in southeastern Russia.
I got to watch the Portugal – North Korea game in the World Cup in 2010. We looked all over the stadium for TRUE North Koreans, but there weren’t any that we could find (aside from the playing field). Apparently, the North Korean government hired a bunch of Chinese actors and actresses to pretend to be North Korean fans. FIFA didn’t even sell any North Korean jerseys. Highly disappointing. Portugal smashed them 7-0. We sang “I’m So Ronery” after the game.
Ben Nesvig says
Just watched the first part and am looking forward to the rest. It’s fascinating. That World Cup game sounds really interesting. If I ever find myself with oodles of money, it’d be very tempting to try to get in the country for a tour.
This is a long, but really interesting read from Kim Jong Il’s sushi chef:
